More from last week's Charleston Trip

This the the 2nd of three paintings I did outside the Hatfield II Fine Art Gallery at the corner of Queen and Church Streets in Charleston, SC. This is the view directly across the street from the French Hugenot Church (yesterday's Work-a-Day).

From Mark, From Charleston

Today's Work-a-Day is a piece I did in Charleston late last week. I went to the Hatfield II Fine Art Gallery at the corner of Queen and Church where I set up my easel outside. The weather was ideal. I made three drawings of the French Hugenot Church--a striking white and black, semi-gothic architecture. Before my first drawing was half finished, a lady from Ohio put a claim on it and came back to purchase it after a Ferry Tour of the harbor.

The French Hugenots, after they were driven out of France in the late 1600s, established the French Quarter of Charleston even before there was a French community in New Orleans. The reason I I know this is by overhearing it repeatedly as horse drawn carriage tours passed by me while I painted.

Although, it's not the largest or the tallest or the most impressive church in Charleston, I think it's the most exquisite.
